- Minimize Visible Personal Elements:
A builder’s model home is intentionally void of the personal items found in most lived-in homes. For instance, when you walk into the bathroom there isn’t much of anything on the vanity. There’s also usually nothing in the kitchen area except neutral decorative items that might be found in anyone’s kitchen. The homes are staged in such a way so that anyone who walks in can picture themselves and their families living there. - Use of Decor Themes in Each Room:
Not everyone likes a themed-out room. However, model homes are great at having individualized room themes. The intent is to provide you with a visually enticing look so that you can imagine yourself living there! Such a carefully curated look and feel is sure to give your house a luxury appearance. - Use of Color Palette Themes:
Not all home builders run a color palette throughout the entire house. However, when you see this in a model home, it is like a work of art. If you are artistically inclined, using a whole-house color palette is sure to give your home a professionally decorated look. - Dramatic Lighting:
Model homes make skillful use of dramatic lighting! In most model homes, a grand chandelier greets you at the door. Model homes also use interesting pendant and sconce lighting in unusual places. Often, you will see lighting that matches the room décor theme and lighting or lamps made from unusual materials. - Large, Interesting, or Grouped Mirrors:
A strategically placed, and unusually shaped mirror can be a focal point in a room. Model homes make great use of cool and unusual mirrors as artwork that fills up blank walls. - Plants, Flowers, and Greenery:
Model homes use greenery, plants, and flowers in highly creative ways. You will see plants used as décor items on counters in bathrooms and kitchens. You’ll also see plants and trees used to fill up awkward blank spaces in bedrooms, living rooms, and offices. Sometimes, model homes will have beautiful floral arrangements that continue a color palette throughout the house. - Dramatic Furniture Pieces:
Model homes use some of the most interesting and daring furniture pieces. Frequently, model homes feature striking entryway credenzas, lush chairs in the living room or bedroom, and breathtaking headboards. Increasingly you will see that lamps have also taken on an artistic and dramatic flair.
Best Wishes for creating that luxury model home look at your house!
